OnlyOffice 'Dock' icon doesn't show correct version (also, unwanted character substitution in filenames -- 'forward' slash becomes a 'colon')

I updated to v.8.2 (Desktop Editors) a while ago. The OnlyOffice icon in the Dock continues to display 8.0 (“OnlyOffice_v.8.0”).

Is there a way to get this corrected?
. . . . .
Also, just to resurrect a topic from some time ago, whenever I use a ‘forward slash’ (/) in a filename the slash is replaced with a colon.

E.g., 7/1/24 displays as 7:1:24

OnlyOffice 8.2 / Desktop Editors

Hello @mk7z

Can you demonstrate this by attaching a screenshot?

I believe you are referring to this topic:

If so, please take a look at the last reply, I was waiting for the video demo back then. We should continue discussion of this problem in linked topic instead of this one to avoid mixing up several problems in one thread.

Assuming you mean a screenshot of the Dock icon showing v.8.0 instead of v.8.2 when the mouse hovers over it . . .

We have just released a new version of Desktop Editors. Please update it and let me know if the situation changes.

OK. If only Docs has been updated can the new release of just that app be updated without also ‘updating’ (overwriting) the other unchanged apps in Desktop Editors?

Or do new releases always include updates for all of the Desktop Editors apps?
That is, do new releases only occur when there are changes to all of the component apps?

You are updating Desktop Editors, not editors inside. Every update brings various new features and bug fixes for each editor. You cannot update only spreadsheet editor, for instance.

So does one just download the new release (currently, 8.3) as if downloading Desktop Editors for the first time, or is there an actual ‘update’ shortcut that can be used?

As I can see you’ve created a separate topic with the same question:

Please do not duplicate posts.

If you have Desktop Editors installed, you can check if there is an update available via ONLYOFFICE button in top left corner (next to Apple logo) or by using Cmd+U shortcut. If update is available, it will download it and install it directly. It will not remove the app and install it anew, i.e. as a first installation.

My recollection is that I had not received a response to the question in the prior post.
Reviewing it now, I don’t see that there had been any replies to the original post.

Thanks for clarifying the update procedure. Based on your reply I assume the update can occur while one is in OnlyOffice – i.e., there is no need to exit the application in order to update?

I went ahead and dared to install the update without exiting OnlyOffice.

The original issue remains. The on-screen progress message during the update process still referred to v.8.0 and the Dock icon post-install still displays 8.0.

The correct version displays only within the app:

After downloading, “Install and relaunch” appeared on-screen. Wouldn’t clicking that result in loss of any unsaved changes? (I went back into OO and ‘saved’ to play it safe.)

The update took quite a while to install and the app took quite a while to reload post-update. It didn’t seem noticeably different from a new download of the full office suite rather than an update.

Can you please right click the Desktop Editor shortcut on your Dock, then go Options > Show in Finder and check out how the app is named there? It mostly seems that it was intentionally renamed previously as I was not able to reproduce the situation with older versions of macOS.

Thanks, the Finder also identifies v.8.3 as 8.0

If by “intentionally renamed” you mean that I would have renamed v.8.2 (the version where I first noticed it) to v.8.0, I can’t think of any reason why I would have done that.

Moreover, since the update is an installation, how would its not identifying the correct version be connected to any prior renaming of a prior version?

It’s possible that I renamed the default filename from its native name. So do you mean that doing that (even though the version was correct) could throw off the filename of any future update, which looks for the factory default filename and otherwise doesn’t work properly?

You can re-install the package to see if the same name appears after.

Thanks, it’s a minor point and doesn’t interfere with any functionality, so I’ll just wait for the next update and not make any changes to the filename. That should be the test of whether my altering the filename interferes with the correct version being displayed.

I do, however, change filenames with some frequency and haven’t run into this issue before.

New version was released.

I downloaded the version for “macOS 10.13 or higher” (Intel chip).
The download (i.e., the app) identifies itself as ONLYOFFICE 2.
Not what I expected (8.3.3).
Also, there is no file listing – it’s completely blank.
That didn’t happen with prior updates.
Please explain.
Thanks.

In the download folder? Not quite clear where it identifies itself like that.

If you’ve downloaded the installer manually and ran it, you, basically, performed re-installation. It is possible that the recents list gets wiped out.

In the Mac Dock:

If I open the program and click on “About ONLYOFFICE” it displays v.8.3.3.

I clicked on a website link to download v.8.3.3. If that’s installing "manually"I don’t know what other way there is to install the update. What would that be?

Or by “manually” are you referring to an update that doesn’t overwrite the existing version, because I did choose to do that in case I had any problems with 8.3.3?

You can also update from the app itself by clicking ONLYOFFICE in top left corner and then checking out updates or, alternatively, using +U.

Is it also named like that in Finders’ Application list?

@Constantine
Thanks.
Yes.

UPDATE: I’ve just noticed that there are two downloads of the update in the Finder. I don’t know how that happened but that would appear to explain why one is listed as “ONLYOFFICE.app” and the other as “ONLYOFFICE 2.app”, the latter being the one I opened. ‘Get info’ displays 8.3.3 as the version for both.
