I want to set the cell size to 40x40px. In Excel, it can be done through the Format option in the Home tab. How can I do that in the OnlyOffice Spreadsheet?
The Format Cell option on the right-side pane doesn’t have the option change Row Height or Column Width like Excel has.
This is basically about column width and row height, as this documentation says:
Change column width and row height
The column width determines how many characters with default formatting can be displayed in the column cell. The default value is set to 8.43 symbols. To change it:
select columns you wish to change,
right-click the selected columns and use the Set Column Width option from the right-click menu,
choose one of the available options:
select the Auto Fit Column Width option to automatically adjust the width of each column according to its content, or
select the Custom Column Width option and specify a new value from 0 to 255 in the > Custom Column Width window, then click OK.
Thank you for answering my question, I found how to set the cell size. I had to select the entire rows and the entire columns and set the height and width separately. I think it’d be better if the Cell Format menu had the height and width setting in a single place. I’m not sure if users will tend to select the entire rows and entire columns if their data is in a small section of the sheet.
Now, why are the units different? For row height, I tried putting in “mm”, “cm”, “in” and “px”. While “mm” and “cm” are working fine and they show the height in pt when I open the custom height input again, the “px” value is set in “pt” (30px becomes 30pt) and the “in” value is completely wrong!
This wouldn’t have been a huge issue if the column width was also taking values like that, but it only takes “symbol” units. I don’t know how big a Symbol is! Why is there so much inconsistency?
This is default standard across all processors that I know. The 8.43 units of column width refer to 8.43 characters, which corresponds to 64 pixels, and the row height is presented in points (1 point equals approximately 1/72 inch or 0.035 cm).
As for the list of available units for specifying row height and column width please check out this topic where I’ve already shed some light:
I don’t know what other processors or software you’ve used, but all the ones that I’ve used have the same unit of measurement for both height and width of cells. They might be in some other unit, maybe even in symbol or characters, but they can be selected by the user.
Is there any reference inside the editors for this unit conversion, or what symbol needs to be used for any specific unit?
What’s the relation between “symbols” and “pt”?
I keep entering values for 20 pixels, but it keeps setting it pt or sym and the pixel measurement keeps changing. Why even measure it other units when it can show in pixels when dragging? Or, why not let the users enter in pixels when it’s going to show the measurement in pixels like this anyway??
I entered “20 px” for height and “3 sym” width, but it keeps setting it to 26 pixels like this.
What are those? Please share for the reference. I’ve used MS Excel.
Every unit is described in the topic I’ve provided, please check it out. Pixels are not one of them.
1 sym is roughly 7,5 pixels.
Because pixels are used to reference the width in your exact set up that depends on the density of pixels of your monitor. This is a standard practice. For instance, Excel does the same thing:
Note that Excel rounds up the value of height to 15.
