Suggestion : add a "pinned files" section in the Desktop editors landing app

Hello
Trying to migrate to linux, I see that with Zorin OS (or ubuntu & co I guess) there is no equivalent of windows jump-lists (IMHO it’s a bit of a shame but that’s not the place to discuss it  )

So, even for Windows or online users, here is a suggestion that could very useful for Linux users : add a new tab in the Desktop Editors landing page:

This tab:

  • would be the default one
  • would contain a list of files pinned from the “recent files” tab
  • pinned files could be reorganised according to different modes: manually, by date, by type
  • pinned files could be removed from there

Thanks for you analysis of this suggestion.

Hello,
Please describe your suggestion in more detail and provide a reference if possible

Hello
I thought the initial description was sufficiently clear to describe the idea an fuzzy enough not to collide with the general UI guidelines of OO.

Anyway, here is a more precise description of what I mean.

(1) In the “recent files” section of the landing page of the “OO Editors” app, on hovering a file (2), a “pin” icon should appear (3)

On clic, the icon should turn to an “active” state and change colour

Once “pinned”, a file should show up in a new section added in the landing page of the “OO editors”:

In this tab:

  • all pinned files should appear,
  • it should be possible to:
    – manually order files (via drag & drop)
    – order files by date
    – order files by type
  • a file could be unpinned by clicking the pin icon. It would then be removed from the list.

As far as I know, there is not exactly this feature in other office suite.
However:

  • beside Libreoffice, OO is the only remaining native office suite with a relevant market share,
  • adding something absent in LO could be a way to differentiate & do better than LO,
  • it would answer a need (easy access to favorite office files) not fulfilled on linux
  • it would also allow to answer the limitation in the number of entries available in windows’ jump list (linked to the fact that OO is a “single-icon” app).
  • if you take a step back and look at online suites, I think even in OO you have this:

So this is just bringing to the desktop a functionality available online.

Thanks for the study of this request.

Thank you very much for the detailed description, we have added the relevant suggestion to our bug tracking system
