Spreadsheet (Excel) Error when clicking tab "File"

Do you want to: Report a bug
Any spreadsheet file present in my OnlyOffice DocSpace gives me the error
“Warning- An Error occurred during the work with the document. Use the ‘Download as’ option to save the file backup copy to a drive”
whenever I try to click the “File” tab (Top-Left).
After I download the file, the process seems to work, but the resulting PDF covers the entire spreadsheet, not only the selected area as shown in the preview.

DocSpace version: OnlyOffice Desktop Editor 8.1.1.27 (flatpak)
Type of installation of the DocSpace: Flatpak
OS: Linux Mint Gnome
Browser version: Firefox 131.0

Additional information:
I could not reproduce the bug in Windows.
I removed & reinstalled OnlyOffice through the Flatpak, no change.

First I noticed this when I tried to Print part of a SpreadSheet as a PDF, but then realised it’s more than that. I contacted the Zendesk with ticket (70976), but was told that was not the channel to submit bugs.
Currently my only workaround is to reboot in Windows or use one of my Linux laptops (run Ubuntu, Snap version of OnlyOffice), where there isn’t this bug.

Hello @DAClopo

DocSpace is not available as Flatpak installation. I do believe you are using Desktop Editors, am I right?

From what I see, you’ve faced two different issues - an error when opening File tab and issue with printing selected range, is that correct? If so, please start new topic for one of them to avoid mixing up several issues in one thread. From the name of topic we should analyze the issue with Files tab first.

Hi Constantine, thank you for your answer;

You’re right, what I meant is that I am using DocSpace through the Flatpak Desktop Editor on Linux Mint, I just phrased that poorly.

I believe the 2 issues to stem from the same problem: the error message I am given is the exact same, at least as long as I use the DocSpace variant of the document.

The Offline editor also is a problem due to the way it prints, but I would rather first sort out the DocSpace if possible, though you are right, I should open up a topic regarding the Desktop Editor version afterwards.

I confess, however, that I am surprised nobody else posted something similar yet, and it makes me wonder if it could be just a local issue, although I wouldn’t know how to debug that.

So Desktop Editors are connected to DocSpace, what’s the version of that DocSpace? How it was installed? Are you an admin of this DocSpace? By the way, do you experience the same issue when working with documents in DocSpace from browser?

Is it possible to record this behavior on video for better visual understanding?

My apologies for the delayed response.
I believe this is what you were asking:

Document management: ONLYOFFICE DocSpace v.2.6.2
Online editors: ONLYOFFICE Docs v.8.1.3.4

I’m also unsure what you mean by “How it was installed”, but on the Desktop Editor, > Connect to Cloud > Add Cloud > OnlyOffice > (inserted Personal link) > Connect Now
I hope that answers it.

I haven’t tried the Browser version as it didn’t seem to let me login, but now that I tried again, it worked flawlessly.

So now it seems to be something specific to my Desktop Editor.

I first tried to upload screenshots, and it wouldn’t let me have more than 1, so then I recorded something and it wouldn’t let me because I am a new user, so, unfortunately, the only way I can upload media seems to be through a link.

I realise that looks dubious, so you don’t have to view it if you don’t want to; I might try something else, like uploading to YouTube or some other platform, and pasting the link if you want.

Thanks for the video and provided information.

Small clarification - spreadsheet opened from the very beginning of the video is located in the DocSpace Cloud and opened from there, is that correct? If so, do you experience the same issue with any other file?

In terms of test, may I ask you to install Desktop Editors from any other source besides Flatpak, e.g. with package, to see if it occurs there too? All installation options are listed here:

Oh Goodness, I am so sorry!

I kept waiting for an email, and only now I accidentally logged into the forum and saw a notification from my post.

Well, just as an update, I currently have:
Desktop Editor version 8.2.0.143 (flatpak)
Document Management: OnlyOffice DocSpace version 2.6.3

The error still persists in the same manner.

I installed the Debian/Ubuntu version through terminal, and the print-as-pdf behaves normally.
The file only shows the selected Excel cells, and I am shown no error.
It’s definitely something to do with the flatpak version.

Thank you for the feedback.

Let’s do a re-cap of the situation that you’ve faced with flatpak version of Desktop Editors:

  • You have used Desktop Editors locally (at least according to the provided video);
  • When selecting a specific array of cell to print out as PDF, clicking Print button sometimes causes “An error has occurred” warning;
  • Re-opening the same spreadsheet without re-launching the editor and clicking on Print again results in actually possible printing;
  • After last item above resulting PDF contains not only selected array of cells, but whole spreadsheet.

Am I correct in these details?

Just a few corrections:

  • The Error message only appears when using the DocSpace.
    After a while, the whole file seems to freeze, and I have to close the Tab & reopen it to resume editing.

  • When using the Desktop Editor locally, everything seems to go smoothly, but the resulting PDF covers the whole workbook, not just the selected array of cells.

So, to summerise it into your points:

  • You have first used DocSpave;
  • When selecting a specific array of cell to print out as PDF, clicking Print button causes “An error has occurred” warning;
  • Re-trying the operation eventually freezes the Tab;
  • Re-opening the same spreadsheet without re-launching the editor and clicking on Print again results in the same errors again;
  • Downloading the File & launching it locally, allows printing to PDF;
  • After last item above resulting PDF contains not only selected array of cells, but whole spreadsheet.

I see, thanks. I was informed that flatpak Desktop Editors 8.2.1 was just released. It’d be nice of you to give it another try on new version and share a feedback.

Hello Constantine,

I just re-installed the flatpak version (8.2.1.38), and the issue is still present.

That’s strange as I did not manage to reproduce the issue. It seems to be related to one particular file. It is possible to share it for test?

Of course, here’s the document I used to record that video, where I cleared any confidential data.

Again, because I am a new user, the Forum doesn’t allow me to upload documents, but here’s the link for you to access it:

I admit, however, that because you weren’t able to replicate it, I fear it could very well be something specific to my setup, somehow? Though I am unsure what it could be.

Regardless, the file is in that link.

Best of luck!

Even with this file the issue is not reproducible. Do I understand correctly that this file is located in the DocSpace portal exactly and not in, for example, a connected WebDav storage?

Yes, all my documents are stored either in DocSpace or locally.

If you cannot reproduce it, it must be some issue with my own system, though I confess I have no clue what it could be; either way, I moved onto the other version as you suggested and I have no more issues currently.

Thanks for the feedback. Anyway, I am glad to know that on another installation it works. If you decide to get back to test flatpak version, I will gladly gather more information.

Of course, if there’s any way I could help, I’d be glad to, but you would have to guide me through it as I have absolutely no clue what to even begin with;
and if my installation is broken, it would take too long to re-install everything & remake my OS the way I want it to be, so that’s out of the question :frowning:

Otherwise, if anything comes to mind, I’ll gladly help out!

I’ve noticed that the link with video is now expired. Is it possible to re-upload it, please?

No, that is the point. I’d like to analyze it in the state “as it is” in current environment. By the way, version 8.2.2 for flatpak was released too, is it possible to run an update and then another try?
