I can’t recall what the ‘Recover files’ label refers to.
It appears as a separate listing from ‘Recent files’ without any explanation.
The implication is that a file wasn’t saved ‘normally’ but has been ‘recovered’.
In what situations does this happen?
Also, what do grayed-out filenames mean?
Thanks
(I may have asked about one or both of these before but haven’t been able to find the information currently,)
@DmitriiV… Thanks. That’s odd, though, because I don’t recall ever seeing OnlyOffice (Desktop Editors) crash. Isn’t that something that is always pretty evident to the user?
I normally don’t exit OnlyOffice without saving open docs.
Occasionally, though, I just Quit the app without doing any saving.
(That prompted a question I posted elsewhere here asking whether Quit saves all open docs.)
Can selecting Quit without proactive saving by the user be seen as a ‘crash’ or at least an event requiring activation of the Recovery state you’ve noted?
Also, how (if at all) does the Recovery condition (i.e., unsaved documents) work in tandem with the Mac Finder – i.e., does the Finder just display the last version of the doc that was successfully saved in OnlyOffice?
2nd reply . . . You wrote that the files with grayed-out names “are no longer accessible for the recovery”. Am I possibly misunderstanding what you meant there? I just clicked on one such doc’s filename in the Recent files list and it opened.
I then saved the file and it appeared to save normally. But the filename still appears grayed-out in the Recent files list. Shouldn’t it appear in the standard black font now (post-save)?
Crash of the app is the most common scenario why files may appear in recovery section. Amongst other ones an error during a work with a file, app closing before saving and such.
The app stores changes in a background and applies them to a file when saving a file. Finder as a manager does not track versions, that means that the in the process of editing, i.e. before saving and closing, the file is not updated. Only after saving is complete, the changes are saved and in Finder you can see the last modification date.
Can you share a screenshot? In general, grayed-out files are indeed no longer accessible, for instance, if they were removed or moved to another folder. This mechanism was described in one of your previous topics.

Yes, but the behavior still isn’t clear. I assume any ‘crash’ would be obvious to the user. I have not experienced crashes in OnlyOffice Desktop Editors. I also haven’t seen indications of any kind suggesting or alerting me to anything odd having occurred.
I did recently ‘Quit’ the program without saving. There may have been unsaved changes in one or more docs but when I asked here whether ‘Quit’ notifies the user of that to allow proactive saving before executing the ‘Quit’, the reply I received was that it does.
I just clicked on two currently ‘grayed out’ filenames in the Recent files listing. One indicated it couldn’t be opened (“can not be open or not exist”). The other opened normally. I then clicked on another gray one and then a fourth one. Those, too, opened normally. So far the “can’t open” notification has only appeared for one of four files. The other three opened normally. That suggests that ‘graying out’ of a filename has more than one meaning…
I could understand the ‘graying out’ of filenames if 'Quit’ting in such a circumstance is seen as an ‘error’ condition, but otherwise I don’t understand it. Nothing out of the ordinary has happened. I don’t do anything more with DT Editors than create and edit standard documents and then save them.
