Are there guidelines for the best way to ‘import from’ & ‘export to’ other file formats?
e.g.,:
– best way to import an MS Office document file
– best way to export to an MS Office document file
– best way to import a Google Docs document file
– best way to export to a Google Docs document file
Also:
– In which cases does a simple copy-&-paste work well?
– In which cases does a simple copy-&-paste not work well?
It is not quite clear what do you mean as “import” and “export” when talking about an app that allows editing documents like Desktop Editor and does not manage those files.

I was just referring to opening and editing files created in Google Docs, MS Office, etc.) in Desktop Editors.
And doing the opposite: opening files created or edited in Desktop Editors in Google Docs, MS Office, etc.
Re: copy-&-paste, I wasn’t looking for an actual data sheet, but presumably these transfers between OnlyOffice and other apps occur, at times out of necessity. So knowing how copy-&-paste actions compare with using an app’s formal import &/or export options (where available), would be useful.
In Desktop Editors there is only one such built-in export option that I’m aware of: “Make the files compatible with older MS Word versions when saved as DOCX, DOTX.” Presumably, the import option is built-in to the ‘open file’ procedure – i.e., OnlyOffice recognizes the file format of the document being brought in to Desktop Editors and employs guidelines on how to best do that (i.e., preserving as much of the original format as it can).
All of named processors are working with OOXML formats, so there are no settings that can be tweaked in this direction. Desktop Editors also work natively with OOXML formats (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX) too.
This option simply disables functionality that is not supported by older versions of MS Office. It has nothing to do with opening a file. DOCX files are opened as it is, then you can enable this option to make file compatible with older versions when saving it.
Thanks. I will just have to experiment with such file transfers if and when I need to deal with file compatibility re: files from other document processor apps that I’m bringing in to OnlyOffice.
Currently, docs from Google Docs would be the main documents I’d want to possibly move to OnlyOffice.
