Ideally the solution would not be to disable the widget but fix its way of displaying so it’s not rendered absolute on top of any content in Talk. I understand this might be issue with Nextcloud Talk too but all the other widgets (including Nextcloud Office docs) render correctly. Here’s an screenshot to demonstrate the issue where one message with a link to OnlyOffice document creates a widget that then occludes the next message on Talk chat:
OnlyOffice widget does not render on top of all the other text and hence occluding content of Talk messages.
OnlyOffice widget not taking over the cursor (and effectively typing inside of the rendered document) automatically - Nextcloud Office documents require you to click ‘Edit’ to enter that mode.
I would also like to ask whether it’s possible to set ONLYOFFICE widgets to be in ‘Viewing’ mode by default as they ‘hijack’ the cursor when the user enters the Talk channel and causes people to type into document when they actually want to type into the chat.
Hello @szanimorph
We have found a bug in the described scenario. We are working on it already. I will update this thread once we release a fix.
Thank you for the valuable data!
@Alexandre apart from the overlapping rendering issue, are you also addressing the fact that the document previews are automatically loaded in ‘Editing’ mode? ONLYOFFICE widget intercepts the cursor (which is meant to be focused in Talk chat input field) resulting in users accidentally typing into the documents? Desired behaviour here would be for documents to be in ‘Viewing’ mode by start with.
Hello @szanimorph
We are still working on the fix for the mentioned issue. I will update this thread when we have something to share.
As for the new situation:

Could you please record a video file with detailed description about it?
Hi @Alexandre how are you getting on? I trust you managed to resolve the overlapping widget bug!
I have recorded the focus takeover issue for you as you requested. Still not permitted to upload files here so please follow the link to watch the video.
Hello @szanimorph
Thank you, I’m fine. We are still working on the mentioned issue in this thread. I will contact you when we have something to share.
As for the new request, I’ve tried to reproduce it, but without luck. Would you mind clarifying versions of your Nextcloud, the Document server, the connector app, and the Talk app as well?
Hi @Alexandre
Do you have any updates on the overlapping widget issue? This is really killing us and many other people I speak to.
Regarding the more recently reported issue with hijacked typing cursor upon ONLYOFFICE widget load in Talk; here’s our versions:
Nextcloud version: 29.0.8
onlyoffice-documentserver version: 8.1.1-26
ONLYOFFICE connector app version: 9.4.0
Talk version: 19.0.10
We have had that issue since ONLYOFFICE started rendering in-line with Talk messages (same is true for the issue I initially described in this thread).
Fingers crossed you can successfully address both of these challenging usability issues.
Could you please comment on my other post in this thread pertaining to how loading widget in Nextcloud Talk hijacks the cursor and users accidentally type into ONLYOFFICE documents?
Sorry, missed that in the line of discussion. We will take a closer look at this situation. Can you please specify if these data is still actual for your environment?
