ONLYOFFICE Document Builder - free software?

Is “ONLYOFFICE Document Builder” free software ?

In this topic, under the heading “Read this before creating your first topic in Document Builder category,” it says “ONLYOFFICE Document Builder 10 is an open-source C++ library” (by the way, why “10” ? the latest downloadable version for windows shows 8.2.0.143 in the file properties).

Also, on the onlyoffice website in the dropdown menu “pricing” I don’t see Document Builder.

But after installing the Windows version (from https://download.onlyoffice.com/install/desktop/docbuilder/windows/docbuilder_x64.exe) - in the directory where the program was installed, there’s a readme that states:

** Registering ONLYOFFICE Document Builder **
Before you start using full featured ONLYOFFICE Document Builder, you need to register it. You can buy the registration key from
onlyoffice web site - Text, spreadsheet and PDF generating tool | ONLYOFFICE
After you pay for your license, you will receive the key by email.
Copy it, go to the installed ONLYOFFICE Document Builder folder, run the Registration file, enter the received key into the field and press ‘OK’. From that time on you can use all the features of ONLYOFFICE Document Builder.

So is it paid software or not ?

If it’s paid, can it be used without purchasing a license, and which features of the full paid version will then be unavailable ?

A staff member can correct me but I think it used to be free, and is now paid under Docs Developer. This whole shift and addition of Docspace which is somehow different than both Docs and Workspace Enerprise is very confusing.

I found: linux - activation create lickey in current dir, instead of installation dir · Issue #10 · ONLYOFFICE/DocumentBuilder · GitHub - it says that in 2017 the distribution had a registration utility that created a license file.

But in 2021, the utility was removed from the distribution.

Now, along the same path (for the installation .deb package for linux), I also did not find such a registration utility.

There are still questions:

  1. Is this software free if I want to use it standalone (not as part of large packages like Docspace, but for small actions such as automatic creation/editing of files - something like writing macros for onlyoffice desktop editors, but to process the document not from a macro, but to use the “engine” from my application) ?
  2. if it’s free - why does the readme say about registration (“Easter egg” for the future and will they make a paid one ?)
  3. if paid - where to buy as a separate product (how to register and can we use indefinitely without registration, if we can - what will be the restrictions in functions)

As for the Readme file, please give me some time, I’ll check the situation and contact you shortly.
