Could You consider adding more ways of filling PDF just like “crossmark” or “checkmark” visible on photo bellow:
This feature is very helpful in case You have to choose one checkbox
And there is not really a shape that could replace crossmark (at least in my opinion)

Just to make things clear. Do I understand it right that you need “crossmark” for filling out checkboxes? As far as I can see the checkmark already exists in the editor.
If I misunderstood the desired scenario, please clarify it.
Ok, You’re there is “crossmark” that I didn’t notice but how about this “checkmark”, that’s very useful for to do lists for instance.

In general, you can use Content Controls for that: go to Insert > Content Controls > Checkbox. You can even change symbols that are used as checked and unchecked states of this box in the settings.
