Linux - default font is Arial which is a windows only font

Hello
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the default font is Arial, even on linux.
However Arial is not available on this OS, which is not consistent.
IMHO, OO should ship with an OS-independant default font (LO has liberation sans ms)

Hello @arcqus

I am doing some research on this topic, please await for the feedback.

Hello again @arcqus

In my research I was able to get some clarity on the situation. Basically speaking, when font is absent from the system Desktop Editor substitutes it with the closest available font. In case when Arial is absent, it actually uses Liberation Sans font, but it keeps displaying this font in the Home tab to avoid confusion.

We think that for this particular discussion following enhancement will be a suitable option to inform users that the font was substituted:

It is also importan to note that the font is defined in the default template that is used for creation of new documents and these templates are the same for all types of installation of Desktop Editors.

I hope it clarifies the situation.

Yes, fine !

2 questions after further thinking:

  1. about the templates : for presentation, can you change the font for all elements (including shapes) ? Easily ?
  2. Could it be considered to add somewhere a parameter to define the default font for everywhere ?

Thanks

As of now the easiest way to create a file with predefined formatting settings is to create a template that will be stored somewhere on the device and use Create from template option of the File menu. As for the shapes - I’m afraid that there is no such option available.

In general, the suggestion to add possibility to overwrite default templates with necessary one for all newly created documents was registered, I am adding your query to it.
