Lag in desktop editor

Editing is oddly laggy; the cursor is always a few seconds behind the word I’m typing. Only a single document is open and CPU usage is low except for OO, which is hitting about 40% (i7-8565U).
Is there anything that can be done to make the editor more responsive and CPU usage less extreme?
