Issue: Bug when saving .xlsx, .docx files in new OnlyOffice Installation
Description:
This error is displayed whenever I try to save. The files are not read-only, the file is not being edited anywhere, and I have tried on multiple disks that have storage. Unsure where it would be throwing a “corrupted” flag.
OS: Windows 10.
Browser version: 8.31.25, no updates available.
I see you’re facing an issue with saving files. Since you’ve already checked that the files aren’t read-only and that you have enough storage, here are a few things you might want to try:
- Run OnlyOffice as Administrator – Windows sometimes blocks apps from writing to certain directories. Right-click the OnlyOffice shortcut and choose Run as Administrator, then try saving again.
- Check File Permissions – Make sure OnlyOffice has full control over the folder you’re saving to. Right-click the folder > Properties > Security, and adjust permissions if needed.
- Try Saving in a Different Format – Save the file in another format (like
.docx
or.odt
) to see if the issue persists. - Look for Special Characters in the File Path – Avoid symbols or non-English characters in the file name or path. Try renaming the file or saving it in a simple directory like
C:\Users\YourName\Documents
. - Check for Windows Defender or Antivirus Blocks – Security software can sometimes prevent apps from saving. Try temporarily disabling it and saving again.
- Run Windows File System Check – There might be a disk issue. Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
chkdsk /f
Then restart your PC and try again.
If none of these help, let us know if you get any specific error messages.
Hope this helps!
@godzilla5428, could you please clarify whether you are referring to Desktop Editors rather than Docs? (As you have tagged the topic as ‘Docs’). Also, could you provide an example of a file where the issue occurs, or does it happen with all files?
@Yassine Hello, and thank you for your response. I have tried each of the above, to no effect. The error message remains the same as shown above, and I do not know how to get more detail on what exactly is breaking.
I have tried it across different file types, names, and drives, and the issue persists.
Sometimes I have luck with a work-around where I try saving again after the error message, and it works on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. Sometimes, it will throw the error but save anyways. But these fixes are not consistent, and I have gotten to a file that now throws this issue at all times.
@DmitriiV Hello, and thank you for your response. My apologies for tagging it “Docs”. While the issue exists for Documents, and this is the most aggravating, it exists for all file types and all files.
Please try running Desktop Editor in the debug mode: Running in debug mode on Windows | ONLYOFFICE
Provide us the screen recording of the issue reproduction with the mode on
