Issue in password protection mechanism of DocumentServer

Hi team,

There are three types of password protection mechanism supported in MS Office files:

  1. Open password : Needs password for opening the file.

  2. Modify password : File can be opened without password for viewing but needs password for editing the file.

  3. Open & modify password : Needs password for opening file in view mode and need another password for editing the file.

In DocumentServer version 6.3.2, only ‘open’ password mechanism is supported while modify password is not supported. Files with modify password can be opened on browser even without password and after editing the file, modify password is not retained. Also files with ‘open & modify password’ can be edited/modified with open password only.

Is it an issue in DocumentServer?
I wanted to attach the test files for you to reproduce it on your end but there is no option to attach files.

Document Server version: 6.3.2
Type of installation of the Document Server (docker, deb/rpm, exe) : exe
OS: Windows server 2019
Browser version: latest chrome

Hello nitin.

Sorry for late reply.

I wanted to attach the test files for you to reproduce it on your end but there is no option to attach files.

You can upload them to some external storage and provide us with download link.

Also please clarify version of MS Office where these files were created and how you enabled p.2 and p.3 features for these files (‘Modify password’ and ‘Open & modify password’)
