Please elaborate on your scenario, as headers and footers are parts of a document too, so I am not quite following why you’d like to know this.

i want to drag and drop content and create mergefield to cursor postion in plugin, so we need to know it is in header,footer or content part

I’m afraid there no such method exists. You should not be able to drag and drop anything into a header/footer unless double-clicking it to edit.

can we request the api for the future versions? Because when you insert something with your current api, it will need different codes in header & footer
