Have two documents open at once (in separate windows)

Has anyone figured out a workaround? I recently switched to mac and it’s really frustrating to copy data across mutliple tabs instead of windows.

Hello @GutmenschAlex
We are still working on the mentioned feature in this thread.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the length of the situation. We will update this thread once we have something to share.

I am finding that franswateebo’s workaround is working for me on macOS

open -na "OnlyOffice"

https://ss64.com/mac/open.html

It does create multiple instances, but the RAM overhead is tiny (50-60MB), compared to what I was experiencing with my previous office product (WPS). The residual headache is keeping track of the multiple instances, and perhaps the arguable clutter in the macOS dock. Otherwise seems to do the job.

Stay FOSSy.

macOS 12.7.6
OnlyOffice 8.1.1

Hi,
to simplify the opening of a file with the script in a new instance of OnlyOffice, I made a shortcut with the Shortcuts app.
The shortcut is launched with a right clic in finder

Hello @ThomasB
Thank you for your sharing! I hope it will be useful for other users.
Meanwhile, we are still working on the mentioned feature in this thread and we will update this thread once we have something to share.

Oh, this is really a shame! Being able to work in two documents at the same time is crucial for my workflow (I’m a researcher). What is the timeframe for this update? I just switched to OnlyOffice and was marvelling at how good it was - until this; it could really be a dealbreaker.

Hello @ChristinaD
Thank you for your feedback! We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I cannot provide ETA at the moment.
I have added your request to our internal tracking system, and I will contact you immediately once we have update to share.

How is this feature not completed for Mac yet? The original question was posted Sep 2023. Yes, there has been a work around posted, but I know there are plenty of Mac Users that are looking for an alternative to Microsoft 365. Probably many Windows users as well, but it looks like this is already a feature in the Windows version.
Please make this a priority. Thank you.
