Hello!
This is my request to the developers of OnlyOffice DesKtopEditors.
In version 7.1 in text documents (docx), you added the ability to search and replace special characters (line break, tab, page break, and others).
I ask you to add a space (^w) and a paragraph ending character to the special characters that can be used for replacement.
Best regards, Sergei.
Hello @Sergey
Itās possible to find āany spaceā by ^w. Please check it out, āSpecial characterā title: Search and Replace Function - ONLYOFFICE
As for paragraph ending character, we need some time to discuss it internally. I will update this post when we get any news.
As for paragraph ending character, we need some time to discuss it internally. I will update this post when we get any news.
We have added this request to internal tracksystem (internal number - 57002). We have started working on it.
Hello Alexandre!
Thank you for your support, but I would like to be able to SEARCH AND REPLACE the space (^w) and paragraph ending characters. This is useful if we want automatically remove extra spaces and empty paragraphs in the text.
Hello @Sergey
As for the space (^w) search and replace, you already can do it. Please check my test: Monosnap
As for paragraph ending character, we are working on it. I will update this post when we have something to share.
I need to remove extra spaces, that is, to replace several consecutive spaces with one. OnlyOffice does not allow to do this (see the picture). This feature is implemented in the Notepad++, AkelPad, MS Office. The same is done for empty paragraphs.
Probably we have workaround solution for you. In the Find tab set ^w^w as you did it before, but in the second one just hit spacebar. This way you can replace double-space with space.
About the issue in general, we are using the same find&replace logic as MS, I mean that you canāt use ^w character in replace tab there.
Thank you very much for your help! I hope that in the next release of OnlyOffice it will be possible to delete empty paragraphs in the same way.
In case this gets to someone two years laterā¦I have the exact same problem as Sergey, which will force men back to MS Word if I canāt solve it. And I so so so do not want to download all that 365 crap on my computer. Anyway, how can I remove all the ^p spaces in a doc and replace them with one space from the space bar? Totally doable in MS Word. And will save a huge amount of timeā¦thanks
Hello @PercyInverted
Sorry for the late reply. Do I understand the scenario right that you want that āFind and replaceā feature to replace ^p symbols to spacebar? So the ^p symbols donāt show anymore in the file?
Iām not sure that I understand the usage scenario right, because this symbol usually marks end of text line.
Hello Alexandre. I need to change ^p^p by ^p. And it must delete the empty paragraphs. As itās done in the Notepad++, AkelPad etc.
Hello @Sergey
We are checking the request. I will update this thread once we have something to share.
Dear @Sergey
Unfortunately, thereās no way to find and replace ^p^p at the moment. We have added a bug to internal tracksystem and we have started working on it.
We will update this thread when we have something to share.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi Alexandre:
Iām following up on this earlier request. Like other users, it seems, I often copy text from PDFs in the process of making notes, pasting it into a word file. But in many instances, this copied material has paragraph breaks at the end of each lineāas well as at the end of the paragraph itself. LibreOffice enables one to find the paragraph breaks and replace them with spacesāthereby deleting the unwanted paragraph breaks. Using OnlyOfficeās Find and Replace identifies the paragraph breaks with ^p but rather than replacing them with a space, inserts the space before the paragraph break and leaves the (unwanted) paragraph break in place. A work-around this problem would be much appreciated.
The only flaw Iāve found in an otherwise great suite.
Hello @FJR
Iām trying to figure out whether this is the same request as described above with ^p^p symbol replacement. Could you please confirm that? If not, please show us the use case, you can provide a test file and record your actions.
Hi Alexandre:
Many thanks for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated.
My issue is one that is mentioned earlier in the email trail: a desire to remove unwanted paragraph breaks in a fileāin this instance, generated when material from a PDF is pasted into the document.
The first screenshot shows how the Find and Replace command identifies the paragraph breaks (and I have asked for them to be replaced by a space).
The second shows that when āReplace Allā is hit (and the program records that successful replace has occurred), a space is inserted before the paragraph mark but the paragraph break itself is not deleted.
{Iāve just received an error message that Iām only allowed one media attachment so will send the other image in a subsequent message).
And hereās the same Find and Replace procedure using LibreOfficeās alternate find and replace (applying the command to just the first paragraph)

Ah, I got it. This is slightly separate scenario and we are working on it already. Recently we added a bug to internal tracksystem on the described issue. I will contact you in this thread once we release a fix for it.
Thank you for the provided data!
