Styles for OnlyOffice Desktop Editor - Document

Hello,
I have saved the style sheet “normal.dotm” from Ms Word for the OnlyOffice document as “new.docx” and thus overwritten the original “new.docx”.
The new OnlyOffice document also contains all these styles. However, OnlyOffice then adds its own standard styles without being asked and unnecessarily, which I cannot remove and which are then unnecessarily included in all future .docx documents.
Is there somewhere to remove the unwanted standard styles from OnlyOffice documents?
Best Regards, Sigmar

DOTM and DOCX are different file formats. Have you tried creating new DOCX and changing styles manually there?

Hi Constantine,
thank you very much for your advice.

My test procedure:

  • I open a new document in Ms Word based on the “normal.dotm”.
The new document contains 18 style sheets designed by me.
  • I save this document as “normal Word.docx”.
This “normal Word.docx” only contains these 18 desired styles.
  • I open the “normal Word.docx” in OnlyOffice and save it as “New OnlyOffice.docx”.
This file now contains 30 styles, thus including 12 styles that I do not want.
  • I open the “normal Word.docx” in LibreOffice and save it as “New LibreOffice.docx”. This file contains as many as 37 styles, thus including 17 styles that I do not want.

The important thing for me now is:

  • in Ms Word I can also only display the styles available in the current document itself for the selection of styles = for me what I want.
  • In OnlyOffice, the style sheets in my document are generally displayed PLUS the remaining non-deletable standard style sheets from OnlyOffice. The selection field at the top in the menu bar is therefore quite confusing for my needs, and the order of the available stylesheets keeps changing
  • In LibreOffice I can choose between displaying
    – all existing styles, i.e. the styles in the document PLUS the remaining standard styles of LibreOffice - which is very confusing
    oder
    – displaying only the styles currently used in the document. If I now want to use a new style from another style contained in the document, I first have to switch to the display of all existing styles in LibreOffice.
  • If I then want to edit the “New OnlyOffice.docx” and/or “New LibreOffice.docx”
with Ms Word again, then Ms Word also displays all these unwanted styles in the document - which makes things more confusing again and not intentionally.

Best regards Sigmar

Is it possible to share DOTM file to reproduce the situation with styles? You can create a simple DOTM file with a couple of styles just in test purposes. By the way, what is the version of Desktop Editors used?

Hi Constantine,
Many thanks for your message.

The versions are ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors
8.2.2.22 (deb) for Linux,
8.2.2.22 (x64 exe) for Windows 11.

I’m afraid I can’t quite understand your question, but in general it’s probably better if I don’t use Ms Word / normal.dotm settings.
I can also customize the standard format templates of OnlyOffice; this works without any problems.

I would therefore like to rephrase my question:
Can I somewhere - for better clarity - at the top of the menu bar remove some default OnlyOffice styles, that I don’t apply?
The best option for me would be the permanently savable option (as in some other programs possible)

  • Show all styles - those from OnlyOffice and those I have added yourself.
  • Show only the styles available in the current document.

Best regards
Sigmar

… or can I rename the names of standard OnyOffice style sheets somewhere?

Thank you for elaborating on the situation. We will take a closer look at your suggestion, once any news come up I’ll let you know.

Hi Constantine,
All in all, it’s exactly the kind of program I need  !
Therefore my kindly meant suggestions:

  • Make it switchable at the menu (on top), whether to display all format styles or only the format styles contained in the document, … perhaps maybe better as a sidebar like in Ms Word?
  • When saving the document, save only the format styles contained in the document.
In addition to the style sheets in the document itself, OnlyOffice also saves ALL standard style sheets and there are then conflicts and sometimes chaos with frequent editing changes between OnlyOffice and Ms Word.
  • User-defined theme colors: OnlyOffice also takes over and displays my document.docx created in Ms Word with user-defined theme colors. However, I cannot change these in OnlyOffice.
In general, the optional possibility of a user-defined and customizable theme color palette would be very desirable.
  • Format template “Used links”: I cannot change its font color and it is not legible when links are clicked: (almost) white font on a white background. Suggestion: as elsewhere - set the font color to violet
  • Save as pdf file: I have not yet been able to find out which dpi value is used for saving.
In general, a selectable dpi value would be very desirable.
  • Show left sidebar “Headings” expanded or collapsed when starting the program, as it was when closing the program.

Irrespective of this, I have pointed out 3 suspected software errors via the OnlyOffice “Support contact form”.
I don’t know if the OnlyOffice “Support contact form” is a good way to make these suggestions?

Kind regards Sigmar

Please start new topics for each suggestion to avoid mixing up several discussion in one topic. It is much more productive to address suggestions separately, because that way users can track topics a bit more easily.

As for the suggestion on styles: we are still working on it. I’ll let you know once any feedback is available.
